This Samsung mobile phone is not new, in fact, I had one back in 2005 and I lost it (stolen?). This is my favorite cellphone ever. It is not high tech, it only has a VGA camera and it is very tiny.
I miss my old phone, this model is very cute - when you get a text message, you will see an envelope sealed with a heart on the front screen. When you send a message, there's the same envelope being sealed and it will seem to fly away. I miss it very much! Even the message tone is unique. I had this phone during my college days when I receive tons of lovey texts <3
Now I am searching the internet where I can buy an old model like this. The new Samsung models nowadays are not clam shell-type anymore and they look very serious x.x
I am guessing I can get a model like this now for less than 5,000. I hope I find one!

iPhone 3G now available in Philippines via Globe | iPhone 3G Plans
iPhone is now available in the Philippines, this time not from Greenhills but legally, through Globe Telecoms. iPhone is available to everyone which is great! Whether you are a prepaid user, postpaid subscriber, or you can avail of iPhone 3G Globe plans as low as Php 1,599 per month.
I have my eyes on the 1,599 pesos Globe monthly plan for iPhone - but it has a 2 year lock in period. Existing postpaid subscribers can dial 211 to know about iPhone offers available to them. I am a postpaid subscriber, maybe i'll call later but I think its more suitable to get an iPhone plan which has free wifi hours, free Wiz wifi hours, talk hours, and free texts.
Yet I know that iPhones are selling hot in the Philippines, have to ask about the availability of units as well.

I wish for a Moto
Before I die of a mystery disease, I would love to have a Motorola V9.
My current phone is dying and I tried to make it happy by shopping for a new casing yet the cost is unbelievable. So I was thinking, why not just get a new phone?
I'm still saving for my 'early retirement at 30' but if I have extra, I'll get one of these:
It is 3G, has edge, and it's beautiful. The cost is around Php 17,000 - not bad at all.

Free Google WiFi from TV?
You have got to love Google with all their kaboom ideas, who would've thought that those empty channels and white space in TV can be converted to WiFi? Yup! And Google wants this white space WiFi free for all.
I hope this pushes through and reach the Philippines someday. Empty TV channels always remind me of horror movies but now, not anymore! These creepy sshhhhh sounding signals can spell free Internet 24/7.
There is some resistance from TV stations since this may interfere their signals, but with Internet TV, who needs TV stations? Just kidding :)
Go get it Google!

Can't Connect This - Huawei Modem E220 and Smart 3G Sim

It's been three weeks with Asus Eee and I've spent more than enough time trying to activate the Smart Buddy sim card to work with the generic Huawei Modem. Even that sentence sounds tiring enough.
Huawei Modem
The Huawei modem is made in china, supposedly you just place any 3G enabled sim card and it should connect to the Internet. According to forums, this is also the brand that Globe uses for its visbility service. And Smart is also using a similar modem for its plan 799.
So first off, I grabbed a Smart Buddy sim card and inserted it into the hardware. It didn't work so I tried activating the 3G sim card by texting and waited 24 hours for activation. Still, the sim card didn't work so I figured to get it to the Smart Wireless Center and the guy there wasn't helpful either. Note: Hardware is working, sim card is not.
He told me that in order for the sim to work, I gotta buy a 3G phone. I said, "what for, that's why I have this modem" and the man said something that the reason they are selling the service is for it to be bundled with a 3G phone. Yet, i told him to find a way to activate it and he did. The man told me it really wouldn't work and today, I was able to talk to a customer rep and confirmed that the Smart Buddy sim card can't be used with the Huawei E220 modem.
Smart Bro 799
Geez. The only option to have a wireless network anywhere is the Smart Bro 799 plan but this one has a two-year contract and would charge you P10 for every 30 minute block in excess of the 40 free hours.
I called Globe too and the rep said they are currently only offering Visibility for corporate accounts.
Asus Eee is lonely without WiFi
I've been carrying my Asus Eee but really, the Eee PC is kind of useless if there's no wifi within the area. We can only hope that in the near future, there are more services to choose from and more gratis wifi internet connection.

More Mobile Phones with WiFi Pease
New mobile phones are entering 2008 yet some of them would be better if they had built in WiFi. I had my eyes on LG Viewty but "full internet browsing" was just via HSPDA or 3G. I thought it had WiFi. Then I was looking at another piece of mobile phone, Samsung U700 which you can get for around Php 11,000. But still, no WiFi.
The only major phones with WiFi on the market are the iPhone, n95, P1, HTC, HTC duo, bulky ones like E61, and E51 (small screen). I'd love to find a longer list of eye candy phones with wifi.
Cellphones, aside from letting me call and text also help me kill boredom and/or avoid conversations by tinkering it and not looking at the person talking to me, it also serves as an escape for uncomfortable situations. Say moments of silence with friends or waiting in line. Hence, it should allow me to tinker tinker tinker, and with WiFi - endless tinkering is possible. :)
You can blog, check your email or even go through the whole process of a domain registration (or domain management) with just a mobile device. Having a portable laptop such as Asus Eee PC is a different story because you can't just bring out your UMPC while inside the elevator or while waiting in line at the grocery (OT: have you seen the new light weight laptop that is water resistant? The ad showed someone pouring water on the laptop and the water just went thru! Not sure if this is Panasonic or Sony).
If you have a list of wifi cellphones, selling, or simply wish to share the info, please do so :) We just can't get enough of cellphones and gadgets as a whole.

Someday, You'll Want an Entertainment System too...
LCD TV's are all over the place, discounted even. Like the Sky Worth LCD TV which offers up to Php 6,000 off if paid upfront. Now who wouldn't be tempted to buy these giant flat screens?
Another special offer that the salesman told me about is the Sony LCD TV that goes with a free Entertainment system, which costs roughly around 50,000 pesoses. If ever I have the money (already) to buy these wonders, I'd like a major room make over. In Wall Speakers are nice to have and who ever thought that there is such a thing as Bookshelf speakers? Coming home to a bedroom with a huge LCD TV screen and great sounds seem really comforting, haha :)
The shop I visited is SM Appliance Center. A nice place to dream and go to. In the meantime, I'll make do of an S-video cable and PC Speakers. I'm watching the movie Hard Candy tonight :)
Have a good work week!

New Inspiration - LG Viewty
I found an ad about the LG Viewty in a magazine and my eyes grew wide when I saw WiFi, Internet Browsing, touch screen, and 5 mega pixel camera all rolled into the Viewty's features.
LG seems to get more competitive in the mobile industry. They just released the affordable LG 3G phone and it was a hit in the Philippines. I wonder if this LG Viewty is just as cheap yet sleek. Seriously, I need to save and get a new phone. Maybe.

Finally Casio Exilim EX-Z77
A big hug to myself! I finally bought Casio Exilim EX-Z77 today because the sales person was more helpful than the last. Got to try it inside the store, took photos of my sister and a video of the sales attendant. It had me at a click and surprised me with its face detection and YouTube capture feature.
Drum roll for the specs:
7.2 Megapixels
Lots of photo modes - night, auction, food, etc.
3x Optical Zoom
Anti Shake DSP
Records in MPEG-4 H.264 high quality video format
The coal black color rocks!
Visit the Exilim Website to discover more features. Patience pays a lot, the original model I was planning to buy, EX-Z75 was more pricey last month. Now it's out of stock and the EX-Z77's price is even lower than the old model.
Cheers to a good working relationship with my new digital camera!

Pinoy Bloggers use Entrecard
Entrecard is creating a storm with bloggers. I just joined yesterday, thanks to Marghil's blog where I read about it. This morning, I was surprised with the number of cards in my entrecard inbox and also, the number of advertisers who want their entrecards displayed on my blog. It's one addicting task to click on other's entrecard widgets to drop your own card.
Now Iknow who visits my blog whenever visitors drop their Entrecards for me. I'm all in for Entrecards so I guess it's time for everyone to get one. You can drop your entrecard at the left side of my blog.
And as usual, Pinoy bloggers are never late to see a big one coming, and look! Pinoy Bloggero already listed pinoy entrecard blogs , if you want to be added on the list, just leave a comment on his blog.
Entrecard aside, I'm preparing templates for my blog to use. 3 columns are preferred now because of the increasing number of widgets just like Entrecard. To edit my banner and some template elements, I would also need to download and try GIMP which a lot of users find easy and effective to use. Will tell you all about it after trial and error :)
Thanks for reading!

What's Asus Eee PC for?
It's portable and only Php 17,000. RG the gadget addict showed me his new Asus Eee PC last night and now I wish I have one too! I already knew about this mini laptop that runs on Linux and open source applications but I said, what's the point? Until I experienced it last night.
The ultra portable laptop stays true to it's motto: Easy to learn, Easy to work, Easy to play. It conveniently fits in my mini backpack that I use everyday, it has wi-fi for internet chores, webcam for videos and communication, and Open Office for writing and spreadsheets.
It's not an alternative to a laptop since it's only 4GB but is expandable through an SD card. Think of it is an internet gadget which goes in-between a laptop and a cellphone or simply your "kill some time and try to be productive" gadget. Imagine, your boyfriend is suddenly stuck in traffic and you have to wait hours before he arrives, you're at a cafe with free wi-fi and instead of wasting hours why not reduce your emails or blog while waiting? Situations like these are unpredictable and that's why you need a portable laptop just like Asus Eee PC which should now become a permanent tenant in your bag joining your cellphone, digicam, and Ipod.
This blog entry just made me convince myself, maybe i'll get one next year in one of these colors:Gadgets, you make my world go 'round.

Stumble Upon - Social Media
First there was Friendster then Facebook, and now you can share not just your profile but also your favorite bookmarked websites. And you don't bookmark them on your browser but in a social platform called Stumble Upon.
I just created an account and it looks bright and shiny for social bookmarking websites. The internet is expanding along with websites like top usa online casinos that reviews other online casinos, but what better way to get a relevant website than those voted for by the internet users themselves?
My favorite sites to stumble upon are the gadgets just like this website that showcases the future of technology?

I am still learning to use it (Stumble Upon) just like Facebook, and i am dedicating my weekend to keep up with IT! and maybe go to Duty Free later with my sister. What a lovely weekend!

The best time to buy a phone - not today
I just spent 1,500 pesos yesterday to have my broken Nokia 6101 fixed. The thought of buying a new phone kept tinkering with my head but I guess this is not a good time to buy a phone - yet.
With all the developments that are bound to happen somewhere near 2008, such as iPhone's firmwares/updates (one arrived already last September) which will make unlocked iPhones "brick" or not function properly, the best thing to do is wait and observe.
I was looking at technology blogs this morning and I was surprised to see a Google Phone! sounds very exciting except that after more research, I found out that Google isn't investing in a mobile phone. Haha! If it were true, then that's another good reason to wait.
Mobile phone prices are also going down constantly especially this coming Christmas, and iPhone is bound to dominate the holiday sales. Even if iPhone's are in Greenhills selling like pancakes, let's hope a local network can start collaborating with iPhone so we can use it legally.
If you're still itching to let go of some money, here's a good buy for now:
The Sony Ericsson Cybershot K790i (mall prices are at Php 11,000 ++)

It's a phone with a 3 mega pixel cybershot camera, mp3 player, and the usual phone features. For me, this is not bad at all. I have a laptop for internet and an incessant blogger like me needs a reliable camera phone. If my Nokia 6101 could not be fixed, I would have bought one of these ^^
Hay, you know you're a Filipino if you can't get enough of cellphones.

Gadget Lust: HTC Touch Phone
Why would I need a pocket pc? I don't know, but i want one!
It all began when i met RG in Gloria Jeans, he was tinkering with what seems like an ordinary pocket pc. Out of curiosity and a bit of boredom, I found myself holding the HTC, checking my email, visiting my blog, and taking a photo of myself. Yeah, the HTC Touch can do all that!
RG made a brief presentation on how he would use the HTC to do instant messaging, take photos and store them, and even listen to mp3s and internet radio.
HTC is very much comparable to Iphone. People can't help but compare the two, but almost always, HTC gets the upper hand. HTC has the same 2 megapixel camera, wi-fi, bluetooth, and the touch screen. The winning streak came in from Windows Mobile 6 which the HTC has, letting you write in MS word, do computing in Excel, and even create Powerpoint presentations.
In a perfect world, every spot is a wi-fi hotspot and more pocket pc users can optimize the use of their gadgets. Your HTC can be more powerful if you subscribe to HSPDA service providers so you can sashay around with a mobile internet connection.
The HTC Touch is available in the Philippines for around Php 30, 000

Susan Miller gives me the Answer
"With Mercury in retrograde, it won't be the right time to buy an electronic item, such as an HDTV, new DVD player, or computer. Browse, compare, but don't acquire your coveted item next month." - Susan Miller, October 2007 for Aquarius
Thank you very much. The highlight of my day was touching and test-carrying an Acer laptop inside the mall. I was ready to fish my atm card from my wallet to buy what sounds like a one-time limited offer (i still think it is) but i a got a hold of myself and simply walked away. Imagine, i visited all the computer shops in Cyber Zone Megamall after my dental appointment, walking off my anesthesia. All the while i felt like a kid in a candy store, my backpack was filled with price lists which i started to collect last week.
Good thing, i checked out Astrology Zone tonight, i do so every month. I was right not to buy a good handy laptop YET. I'll postponed it next month as Mercury is in retrograde this October. Anything can happen and I might even end up with a defective unit. :)
Thanks a bunch again Susan!

Clash of the Gadgets: iTouch, Compaq, and Casio Exilim
All three are saying: buy me! buy me!
If money was no matter, i'd get all of them. At the moment, all i can do is stare at you - my future digital children. The laptop is Compaq C551, which is on sale on most computer shops. The features are known to me because boyfriend has the same laptop that we use at home. Im sick of borrowing so i would like my own : D i like using the laptop because i don't have to be secluded in the computer room. Our house is also wifi enabled and that means i can write and blog anywhere including the kitchen!
Recently, i have been using the iPod Nano for travelling and now there's the Apple iTouch which is an iPod with WiFi features and video compatibility. i love it! It's just around Php 15,000 and that must be the retail price - please, don't overprice it here in Manila!
This one is long overdue. A new digicam and i prefer Casio Exilim because i've also seen how it took great pictures. There has been a shortage of photos here in my blog because i don't have a crisp digicam. This is just around Php 13,000
I'll think long and hard before i decide but i promised myself to get one of the three this December. Merry Christmas suzaku :)
